About the series; Tomâs Adventures in Alaska
Tom feels the call of The Last Frontier and follows his feet to Alaska. Heâd dreams of adventure and fate serves him adventures greater than he could have imagined. His story begins as he travels via ferry to Kodiak Island and starts work as a rooky commercial fisherman. Being a greenhorn not his dream job but because heâs broke and in a foreign land, he doesnât have any other choice. He takes on the jobs thrust at him and befriends all he meets, well most anyway. Tom earns enough money fishing that he can afford to travel and have more adventures off of the fishing boat (and off of Kodiak Island).
Tomâs Adventures in Alaska takes place around Alaska and northwestern Canada. Tom travels through country so diverse and beautiful that words fail to do it justice. He survives storms at sea, and all of the treachery that fishing throws at him. He travels through amazing wilderness with all of the dangers that lurk in the wild. The people he meets are such a part of his adventures that their antics are a big part of the story. They are true Alaskans who face any challenge with lots of good humor and true friendship as is portrayed in every story. Each book is a continuation of the story but stands alone so characters are introduced and fade away in each; similar to the way it happens in real life.
Tomâs Adventures in Alaska isnât only about commercial fishing. Tom goes beachcombing, hunting, sport fishing, gold panning and so much more. He fixes up a motorcycle and travels to places unknown. He lies on a picnic table to watch the Northern Lights, watches meteors shoot across the sky, and even has a bath with a moose. Tom falls in love (or lust) and his girlfriend takes him on a whirlwind adventure all on her own. Tom learns that sheâs just like Alaska, wild and untamed. Sheâs sexy, feisty, and outspoken every chance she gets.
Tomâs stories are based on the real life adventures that the author had in Alaska in his youth. The people are real, the places are real, and the adventures are real. The bears are very real. Many of the people that some of the characters are based on are still alive, so names have been changed and events obscured to protect their identities. The series is written as fiction because some of the events described are based on stories told to the author on the fishing boat on which he worked. Some events are pure fiction. Beer stories and bear stories make for good fiction.
